Visit Us

Visit Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary. Here you will find a tranquil haven, a place of healing for the broken-spirited, both donkey and human. We invite you to relax and enjoy a quiet interlude, go for a stroll on the circular walk through the vineyards, view our donkeys, do some bird-spotting and absorb the rural surroundings!

Eseltjiesrus is first and foremost a sanctuary providing a safe home and loving care for rescued, destitute and aged donkeys and we therefore ask you to please respect the peacefulness created here. Please note that we are not a petting farm or an entertainment centre.

On your visit you will be able to walk around and see the donkeys in the various paddocks. On Saturdays and Sundays you can also chat with a visitor guide.

PLEASE NOTE: Entry to the paddocks on Saturdays and Sundays are dependent on the donkeys on the day and are at the discretion of the guide on duty.

The Sanctuary is open to the public from 11h00 till 1600, Thursdays to Sundays. You need not make a booking to visit the sanctuary, nor do we have an entry charge. We do however appreciate your donations to support the work we do. On Thursdays and Fridays you are requested to use our brochures and do a self-guided tour. On Saturdays and Sundays a guide is on duty.

We are closed Mondays to Wednesdays.
